The Norwegian Lundehund is one of the most unique breeds out there! Here are 7 things you didn’t know about this special pup:

  1. The word “Lunde” comes from the Norwegian word for puffin, which is also known as a sea parrot! This breed was specifically bred to hunt these birds on Norway’s rocky island of Vaeroy.
  2. The Norwegian Lundehund has six toes on each foot – all of them double or triple jointed – giving them an amazing range of motion that helps them navigate narrow caves and tunnels while hunting puffins!
  3. Their ears can be closed tightly against their head to keep out dirt and water while they’re hunting in tight spaces!
  4. They have a short but dense double coat that’s slightly thicker around their neck and shoulders to protect them from cold water and sharp rocks when they’re out in nature!
  5. They are intelligent, alert, loyal companions who love being part of the family – but they need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy!
  6. They make great pets for active families looking for an unusual pet – even though they may not be suited for hunting puffins anymore!
  7. The Norwegian Lundehund stands between 12–15 inches tall at the shoulder with males usually measuring in at 13–15 inches tall while females measure 12–14 inches tall!
