Neutering or spaying your pet is an important part of ensuring they live a healthy and long life. This simple procedure sterilises your companion animal, preventing them from reproducing and eliminating the risk of developing certain medical issues. Here are some essential facts about neutering and spaying that all pet owners should be aware of:

Benefits – Aside from preventing unwanted pregnancies, neutering/spaying can offer many other benefits including reducing aggression, territorial behaviours and the risk of certain types of cancer in animals. In addition to this, it lessens their desire to wander (better for their safety), making it easier for them to stay in one place without running off!

  • Age – Timings for getting your pet fixed depend on their breed as well as size; but generally speaking it’s recommended that cats undergo surgery between 4-6 months old whereas dogs should wait until 6-9 months at least before being spayed or neutered.
  • Cost – The cost of having this procedure done will vary with location and whether you choose private or public services. However, depending on the particular area there are often discounts available during low seasons which make these services much more affordable than normal!
  • Recovery time – Depending on how complex the surgery is; typically pets will return home after 1-2 days after undergoing this process. During this time, keep them warm and comfortable with a soft blanket/bedding so that they don’t feel too cold when recovering from anesthesia. Additionally, ensure wounds are kept clean and dry by changing dressings regularly and most importantly watch out for any signs of infection post operation!
  • Avoid food/water – For 2 hours prior to the procedure avoid giving them anything to eat as well as water as these could result in vomiting while under anesthesia due to excess stomach acids that accumulate over time when not kept hydrated or fed properly beforehand.
