The Rat Terrier is a small, active breed of dog that has been around for centuries. This breed is known for its intelligence and loyalty, as well as its playful nature. They are often referred to as “ratters” due to their ability to hunt down and eliminate rats and other vermin. The Rat Terrier is an ideal pet for those who want a loyal companion with plenty of energy and personality.

Rat Terriers come in two sizes: standard and miniature. The standard size typically stands between 10-18 inches tall at the shoulder, while the miniature size stands between 8-10 inches tall. Both sizes have a short coat that comes in a variety of colors, including black, white, tan, chocolate, blue, red, fawn and more.

When it comes to temperament, Rat Terriers are generally friendly and social with everyone they meet – including strangers! They are also highly intelligent dogs that love puzzles and challenges. They do have a high prey drive though so it’s important to keep them on a leash when out in public or around other animals.

In terms of exercise needs, Rat Terriers require plenty of physical activity each day in order to stay healthy and happy. This can include walks or runs around the neighborhood or playing fetch in the backyard. It’s important to note that these dogs have an abundance of energy so they need plenty of opportunities to burn off some steam!

When it comes to training your Rat Terrier, positive reinforcement techniques work best as this breed responds best when praised for good behavior rather than punished for bad behavior. As long as you remain consistent with your training methods you should find success fairly quickly!

Overall, the Rat Terrier is an ideal pet for those who want an active companion with lots of personality! With proper care and attention these dogs can be wonderful additions to any family – just make sure you’re prepared for their high energy levels!
