Puppies, when excited, often tend to become over-enthusiastic in their interactions with people and may even resort to jumping and biting which is usually not an ideal situation for either party involved. Training your pup early on can help them learn appropriate behavior for different environments and circumstances as well as provide them with the necessary tools to cope with situations that may trigger these actions. Here are some tips on how to do just that:

  • Set reasonable expectations – It’s important to remember that puppies are still young and developing so expecting too much from them in terms of perfect self control can be a bit unfair. So try setting more reasonable expectations while also providing positive reinforcements such as verbal praise whenever they display good behaviour!
  • Positive reinforcement – Positive reinforcement is an effective way to encourage desirable behaviours in dogs. Whenever they respond positively or perform a particular action you like such as sitting calmly at your side; make sure you reinforce this through praising/treating them right away! This helps create a strong bond between you two and encourages repetition of these good behaviours.
  • Socialisation – Taking time out of your schedule to socialise your puppy upon adoption is essential in making their transition into the home much easier. Make sure you expose them to various dog breeds/sizes by taking walks or visiting the local park etc., as this will help prepare them for future interactions with strangers/other animals! It also boosts their confidence levels, encouraging better self control overall when faced with new situations later down the line.
  • Take your time – Moving too quickly through training sessions can be counterproductive so it’s important that you take your time building up trust between you and your furry pal before introducing any complex commands such as teaching them not to jump/bite people. Start off with basic instructions like ‘sit’ or ‘stay’ and gradually progress from there once they understand what is required of them at each stage!
  • Educate yourself – Doing research on best practices for training puppies can help ensure that all sessions go smoothly without putting either of you under unnecessary stress or strain. It’s also important to stay patient throughout the process as this will pay dividends in terms of attaining desired results faster than expected!
