Fritz, a dog that was left bloody and unattended at the Lexington Humane Society earlier this week, has recovered and has been legally adopted!
An LHS Facebook post said Fritz, who had been left overnight at the facility and discovered bleeding profusely by workers on Monday, was likened to a couch hippo (and the hippo born this summer at the Cincinnati Zoo).

He received quick medical attention from LHS’s medical staff, who discovered he had a prolapsed urethra.
“Throughout his examination and prep for surgery, he never stopped wagging his tail and trying to lick his rescuers. He was one happy, happy hippo knowing help had arrived,” the post said.

Fritz’s happy ending came true on Friday when he was adopted.
“What we do know is Fritz now feels great, looks great, and is one hungry, hungry hippo thanks to our life-saving care,” the post added.
