Early in August, the mother, 1-year-old Godiva, gave birth to a litter of seven puppies. To ensure that they could spend their crucial growth phase together in a setting better than a shelter, they were all moved to a foster home. Ultimately that month, HRA received a call regarding a dog that was abandoned and chained to a pole; the dog was later identified as Godiva.

At barely 3.5 weeks old, the litter was apparently stolen when they were most vulnerable. According to HRA, the litter may have been sold or provided to unwary customers.

After humane law enforcement executed a search and seizure warrant on a property believed to be sheltering the litter, one of the seven puppies was discovered. The mother and the lone puppy were reunited.

Someone gave another dog to HRA on September 15 after seeing the news coverage.

Aries the dog was reunited with his mother and sister, Glitter, in a video that HRA released showed them having fun together in a backyard.

In an email to WUSA9, HRA stated that both siblings would benefit from growing up together during their formative years and would avoid the anguish of being apart from their mother too soon. We fervently desire this for Godiva’s remaining puppies, who have been deprived of it.

There will be a reward for the person who reported Aries. The HRA is offering a reward of up to $7,500 for information regarding the puppies that are 5 weeks old.

“We’re hoping this will encourage others who might know more to come forward for the sake of the puppies’ welfare as well as the safety of our neighborhood and staff.”
