Ryder has always been a sucker for every toy he comes across. He’s naturally quiet and cuddly and enjoys spending time with his miniature pals. When his family puts up a Christmas tree each year, Ryder is perplexed as to why there are perfectly nice toys hanging on the tree. He normally left them alone, except when he met Eeyore.
“He first noticed Eeyore on the tree last Christmas, but this year he became obsessed with it,” Lauren Chang, Ryder’s family member, told The Dodo.
Ryder’s favorite ornament on the Christmas tree is Eeyore. Last year, he was content with simply admiring Eeyore from a distance, but this year, he took their relationship to the next level. When his family isn’t looking, Ryder goes over to the tree and gently takes Eeyore down, ecstatic to see his best buddy.
“When he steals it, he just holds it in his mouth or brings it to his bed or the couch to take a nap,” Chang said. “He has only ever stolen Eeyore, even though there are similar stuffed ornaments on the tree.”
Eeyore holds a particular place in Ryder’s heart. Even though his family eventually replaces him on the tree, he treasures every moment he gets to spend with his tiny Christmas pal.
“We don’t always take it away from him right away — sometimes he gets to sleep with it,” Chang said.
Ryder decided there was something unique about Eeyore this Christmas, and his family is excited to see if his affection for the ornament will become a Christmas tradition.
