Keeshonds are known for being friendly, intelligent and alert dogs who make great family pets.
They are loyal companions who love to be around people and enjoy playing games such as fetch or tug-of-war.
They get along well with other animals but can be wary of strangers so it’s important to socialize them from an early age. Keeshonds need plenty of exercise so they should be taken on daily walks or runs to keep them healthy and happy.
The name “Keeshond” comes from a Dutch word meaning “barge dog” because they were often found living on barges in Holland during the 18th century!
The breed was also once known as the “Smiling Dutchman” because of its cheerful expression!
In addition, Keeshonds have been featured in paintings by famous artists such as Rembrandt van Rijn and Thomas Gainsborough!
