A Dog Who Just Wanted a Friend
For Gigi, a loving and playful pit bull, life wasn’t always easy. Every time her owner, Aaron, took her for a walk, he noticed how people would cross the street to avoid them.
It wasn’t just about him—it was about Gigi, a dog who had done nothing wrong but was judged simply because of her breed.
“I wanted to take Gigi to the park to help socialize her, but people were avoiding her. They didn’t want their dogs playing with her, so she ended up playing by herself,” Aaron told The Dodo.
Watching Gigi stand alone while other dogs played broke his heart. He knew she deserved better.

Overcoming the Stigma Against Pit Bulls
Aaron quickly realized that the prejudice they faced wasn’t unique to them. Many Pit Bulls and other “Bully breeds” suffered from the same unfair treatment.
People assumed they were dangerous, aggressive, or untrustworthy—when in reality, they were just like any other dog, craving companionship and playtime.
Determined to change this, Aaron decided to create something special: a Bully breed meetup.
His goal? To give dogs like Gigi a safe space to play, make friends, and show the world that Pit Bulls aren’t the villains they’re often made out to be.

The Moment That Changed Everything
The first meetup was a life-changing experience—not just for Gigi but for Aaron, too.
For the first time ever, Gigi wasn’t alone. She was surrounded by dogs who didn’t judge her—dogs who wanted to play, run, and wrestle just like she did.
As Aaron watched her zoom across the park, tail wagging uncontrollably, he knew he had done something right.
It wasn’t just about Gigi anymore. It was about every pit bull who had ever been misunderstood, every owner who had ever felt isolated, and every dog that just wanted a chance to be accepted.

Building a Community of Love and Acceptance
What started as a simple idea quickly turned into a movement. The meetup became a regular event in San Diego, bringing together dogs and owners who had long been pushed aside.
Aaron’s favorite part? Watching both the dogs and their owners find their “happy place.”
He saw fearful, hesitant pit bulls transform into confident, playful dogs. He saw hesitant owners form friendships with people who understood their struggles.
But for Aaron, it was nothing compared to watching Gigi finally experience the joy she had always deserved.

A Friendship That Healed Two Hearts
Gigi wasn’t always Aaron’s only dog. She originally came into his life as a companion for his aging lab. When his first dog passed away, Aaron and Gigi leaned on each other, navigating their shared grief together.
Through loss, their bond deepened. And through the meetups, they both found healing.
Gigi’s journey isn’t just about one dog finding friends. It’s about changing perceptions, breaking stereotypes, and proving that every dog—no matter the breed—deserves love, kindness, and the chance to play. Watch Gigi’s heartwarming journey in the video below.
