Irish Wolfhounds are majestic and powerful dogs that require special care and attention. Grooming is an important part of keeping your Irish Wolfhound looking their best. It’s important to brush and comb them regularly, as well as trimming the area between the paw pads, around the anus, and inside the ears and mouth.

Brush Regularly

It’s important to brush your Irish Wolfhound regularly with a solid sticker brush, then pass again with a solid steel comb. This will help remove any dirt or debris from their coat, as well as helping to keep it looking shiny and healthy. You should also check inside your dog’s ears and mouth for any signs of infection or irritation.

Trimming

You should also trim the area between your Irish Wolfhound’s paw pads, around the anus, and inside their ears and mouth. This will help keep them clean and free from any dirt or debris that can cause irritation or infection. You can use scissors or clippers for this task, but make sure you are gentle when doing so.

Hand Stripping

Twice a year, it is necessary to hand strip your Irish Wolfhound’s coat in order to maintain its natural texture and look. This involves plucking out dead hairs with either your fingers or a shedding rake. Make sure you are gentle when doing this so you don’t hurt your dog in any way.

Bathing

Bathing your Irish Wolfhound is also an important part of grooming them properly. You should only bathe them once every few months using a mild shampoo specifically designed for dogs with thick coats like theirs. Make sure you rinse off all of the shampoo thoroughly afterwards so there isn’t any residue left behind that could irritate their skin.

Nail Care

You should also pay attention to your Irish Wolfhound’s nails when grooming them by trimming them when necessary using either nail clippers or a grinder specifically designed for dogs’ nails. Be careful not to cut too close to the quick (the pink part of the nail) as this can be painful for your dog if done incorrectly.

By following these tips on grooming your Irish Wolfhound regularly, you can ensure they stay looking their best at all times!
