Keeshonds are medium-sized dogs with an impressive gray, black and cream coat and a massive, plumed tail. They are part of the spitz family, with a fox-like face, small ears, thick fur and a tail that curls over their back. For centuries they have been used as loyal companions and watchdogs on Dutch barges. Keeshonds are friendly, intelligent and alert dogs who make wonderful family pets.

The Keeshond is an old breed that has been around for centuries. It is believed to have originated in Germany during the 17th century as a barge dog on Dutch vessels. They were also popular among farmers who kept them as watchdogs on their farms. During the late 18th century, Keeshonds became popular among royalty in Europe and were even featured in paintings by famous artists such as Rembrandt and Gainsborough.
