Kiah the Courageous Canine made her mark on the world in 2015 when she became the first pit bull ever to join an American K9 police force. Kiah was rescued from a high-kill shelter in 2013 and soon caught the attention of New York State Trooper Justin Bruzgul who trained her in basic police work and entered her into the force.
Kiah’s unique skills have already proven invaluable in various law enforcement cases, most notably during a murder investigation where she used her keen sense of smell & intuition to track down evidence that ultimately led to an arrest. She also excelled at locating lost children, detecting narcotics, and helping to calm hostile suspects.
In addition to being highly intelligent & brave, Kiah is also great with children & elderly people – something which helped her win several awards throughout her career including “Top Dog” & “Heroic Dog of the Year”! She has even appeared on television shows such as The Ellen DeGeneres Show and was part of an awareness campaign designed to reduce animal euthanasia rates nationwide!
Kiah continues to work with the Pleasant Valley Police Department today, inspiring other dogs and handlers across the United States with her courage & dedication! By proving that Pit Bulls can be loving companions & trusted family members as well as reliable law enforcement partners, she has paved the way for countless others like herself and shown us all how powerful acceptance can be. Thank you, Kiah!
