The Plott Hound is a medium-sized hunting dog with a powerful, streamlined body and an eager-to-please nature. Originally bred for hunting bears in the United States, the Plott Hound is known for its intelligence, loyalty, and fearlessness. The North Carolina General Assembly even designated the Plott Hound as the official state dog of North Carolina in 1989!

The Plott Hound has an interesting history. It was developed by Johannes Georg Plott and his five sons who immigrated to America from Germany in 1750. They brought with them five Hanoverian hounds that were crossed with local dogs to create what we now know as the Plott Hound. This breed has been used for hunting big game such as bear and mountain lion ever since.
