The Sussex Spaniel is a medium-sized sporting dog breed originating in Sussex, England. It is a low, compact spaniel and is as old a breed as any other. With its unique golden liver color and long, low body, the Sussex Spaniel has been developed to flush birds into the air for hunters.

The breed is known for its intelligence and calm nature, making them great family pets. They are loyal and affectionate with their owners and can be protective of them if they feel threatened. However, they are also aloof with strangers until accepted by their owners. Once accepted, they become polite and friendly with guests.

The Sussex Spaniel has a medium-length coat that comes in one of two colors: golden liver or dark mahogany. The coat should be slightly wavy but not curly or silky. This breed requires regular brushing to keep it looking healthy and free of tangles or mats.

This breed is an active one that needs plenty of exercise to stay healthy and happy. They enjoy activities such as running, swimming, hiking, playing fetch or frisbee, and going on long walks with their owners. They also love spending time outdoors in general so make sure to provide plenty of outdoor playtime for your Sussex Spaniel!

Sussex Spaniels are generally healthy dogs but may be prone to certain health conditions such as hip dysplasia, ear infections, eye problems, heart disease, epilepsy and patellar luxation (slipped kneecaps). Regular vet checkups will help ensure your pet stays healthy throughout its life span which can range from 10-12 years depending on care given.

Overall the Sussex Spaniel is an adorable breed that makes a great companion for families who have the time to give them plenty of attention and exercise! If you’re looking for an intelligent yet gentle dog that loves being outdoors then this could be the perfect fit for you!
