Tosas are a breed of dog that originated in Japan. They are also known as Japanese Fighting Dogs, and they have been bred for centuries to be loyal, brave, and protective. While the breed has become popular in the United States, there are some differences between American and Japanese Tosas that you should be aware of before deciding if this is the right breed for you.

The first difference between American and Japanese Tosas is their size. In Japan, Tosas were bred to be large and powerful dogs, while in America they are bred to be smaller and more compact. This means that if you want a larger dog for protection or guard duty, then an American Tosa might not be the best choice for you. On the other hand, if you want a smaller companion dog that is still loyal and protective, then a Japanese Tosa might be perfect for you.

Another difference between American and Japanese Tosas is their temperament. In Japan, Tosas were bred to be aggressive fighters with strong guarding instincts. However, in America they have been bred to be more docile companions with less aggressive tendencies. This means that an American Tosa might not make the best guard dog but could still make a great family pet if properly socialized from a young age.

The last major difference between American and Japanese Tosas is their coat coloration. In Japan, Tosas typically have black coats with white markings on their chest or face. However, in America they can come in many different colors including brindle, fawn, red-browns, sables and even solid white or black coats with no markings at all! So depending on what type of look you prefer for your pup will determine which type of Tosa would work best for you.

Overall both types of Tosas make wonderful pets if given proper care and training from an early age. They are loyal companions who will protect their families fiercely when needed but can also show affection when given love and attention from their owners. So whether you decide on an American or Japanese Tosa just remember that each one will bring its own unique personality into your home!
