The Whippet is a medium-sized breed of dog that originated in England. It is a sighthound, descended from the Greyhound, and is known for its speed and agility. The Whippet has been called the “poor man’s greyhound” due to its affordability compared to the Greyhound. It was originally used for poaching and rabbit coursing, but today it is primarily kept as a companion animal.

Whippets are intelligent, loyal dogs with an even temperament. They are generally quiet and do not bark unnecessarily. They are also very fast, capable of reaching speeds up to 35 mph (56 km/h). They have a sleek, muscular body with short fur that can be found in many colors including black, white, tan, brindle and blue.

Whippets require moderate exercise to stay healthy and happy. They love running and playing fetch in open spaces such as parks or fields. However, they should not be exercised too much as this can cause joint problems due to their slender build.

Whippets are relatively easy to train due to their intelligence and eagerness to please their owners. They respond well to positive reinforcement such as treats or verbal praise. Training should begin at an early age so that they learn basic commands such as sit, stay and come when called.

Whippets make great family pets as they get along well with children and other animals if socialized properly from an early age. They are also relatively low maintenance when it comes to grooming; they only need occasional brushing or bathing depending on their activity level or environment conditions.

Overall, the Whippet is a sleek and intelligent breed that makes a wonderful companion for any family looking for an active yet gentle pet! With proper care and training they can become loving members of your home in no time!
