Employees of Mitchell County Animal Rescue, Inc. responded to a report on July 5 regarding a fearful dog discovered close to a roadway and assumed she had fled from fireworks the previous evening. They didn’t anticipate seeing a dog that had been listed on their “lost” board for more than a month.
A few good samaritans who were taking in the neighborhood fireworks display the previous evening noticed an animal’s shadow go around their car and then hide underneath it. One of the Good Samaritans, Marilyn Williams, told The Dodo, “We believed she was a fox.”
They quickly identified the animal as a dog and could see by the look in her eyes that she required assistance. She seemed really terrified, Williams remarked.
The anxious dog initially resisted coming out from under the car. But they persisted, and ultimately the dog sprinted outside and leaped right into their car via the driver’s side door, feeling at last secure.

Williams and her husband took the woman to their house where they fed and watered her and attended to a little cut on her face. The adorable puppy was remarkably composed throughout.
Williams remarked that she “was very quiet and timid.” She never once yelled. She was completely silent.
The peaceful dog was brought to Mitchell County Animal Shelter after a restful night’s sleep by the couple in the hopes that they would be able to reunite her with her owners.
The moment shelter staff members saw her, they knew she was Fiona, a senior dog who had gone missing a month earlier while on a family vacation. Even one of the “missing” posters that were stuck to their front door depicted her.

Employees called Fiona’s mother to share the good news after scanning her for a microchip to verify her identity. The moment her mother entered the room, Fiona, who had been as reserved at the shelter as she had been at Williams’ home, began to speak for the first time.
According to a shelter worker who spoke to The Dodo, “When Fiona heard her, she got all delighted.”
Fiona’s tail didn’t stop wagging when she saw her mother. You can see their touching reunion here:
Williams and her family are delighted that Fiona is back where she belongs, even if they miss the sweet pooch they got to know that night. Fiona is finally at home and secures with her family.
It’s simply a really nice conclusion to a very wonderful narrative, Williams added.
