The Norwich Terrier is a small breed of dog that originated in the United Kingdom. They were bred to hunt small rodents and are known for their fearless and loyal temperament. If you’re considering adding a Norwich Terrier to your family, here’s what you need to know about owning one.

Size and Appearance

Norwich Terriers stand no more than 10 inches at the shoulder and weigh 12-14 pounds. They have a slightly fox-like face with erect ears, large eyes, and short legs. Their coat is wiry and comes in shades of red, wheaten, black & tan, or grizzle & tan.

Temperament

Norwich Terriers are active, intelligent dogs who need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. They are also very affectionate and loyal towards their owners, making them great companions for families with children or other pets. Despite their small size, they can be quite stubborn so it’s important to start training early on.

Grooming

Norwich Terriers require regular grooming in order to keep their coats healthy and free from mats or tangles. This includes brushing at least twice a week as well as occasional trimming or clipping if needed. It’s also important to check their ears regularly for signs of infection or irritation.

Health Concerns

Like all breeds, Norwich Terriers can be prone to certain health issues such as allergies, hip dysplasia, luxating patellas (dislocated kneecaps), eye problems, thyroid disease, diabetes mellitus, deafness, heart disease, epilepsy and skin conditions such as mange or seborrhea. To help ensure your dog stays healthy it’s important to feed them a balanced diet and provide regular veterinary care including vaccinations and checkups.

Exercise Needs

Norwich Terriers need plenty of exercise in order to stay healthy both physically and mentally. This includes daily walks as well as playtime with toys or other dogs in the household. They also enjoy activities such as agility courses or tracking games which can help keep them mentally stimulated while providing physical activity at the same time.
