A black Labrador mix pup who had been abandoned on train tracks near San Diego, California was lifted from danger, after at least a week on his own.

Suzanne Hall, on call for Logan’s Legacy — a national dog rescue organization — lured the dog out of harm’s way with snacks. “He went in so fast. He was starving.” Once out of target to be hit by an incoming train, Hall noticed clumps of dark fur on the tracks where he had retired. He had been covered in scrapes and small wounds.

She safely placed the aptly named “Soldier” into a crate and promptly to medical attention. “We got him to my vet and got him everything he needed. He was such a good boy. But he was so scared.”

Soldier was too timid and frightened to be considered for foster care. It took seven months of training and the assistance of a Southern Californian organization, Labrador and Friends Dog Rescue, to find the two-year-old a home.
