Bianca Nachmani prepared to do some washing and went downstairs to the laundry room in her building. She hoped to be by herself so she could choose the machines she wanted. She heard some rustling as she walked toward the laundry room and assumed one of her neighbors was already there. She was correct, but the neighbor she encountered wasn’t who she had anticipated.
Apollo, a large, fluffy dog, was hanging out amid the devices, investigating them and the space. He was overjoyed to see Nachmani and learn that he was no longer alone. Although Nachmani was equally as happy to see him, she was also very perplexed.
“At first, I didn’t know if he had come from an apartment down the hall that wasn’t visible but maybe had a door open, or if maybe he had managed to get on the elevator from another floor without his owner,” Nachmani told The Dodo.
Though Apollo didn’t keep her in the dark for long, as he swiftly brought her to an apartment close to the laundry room from which he had very obviously fled. Due to her uncertainty about whether or not anyone was home and her reluctance to lock him back inside, Nachmani took Apollo back to the washroom and appointed him as her helper.
“I’m a dog mom and have always had a huge love for animals of all kinds, so I was thrilled to have a friend to make my chores a bit more interesting — even if he made the process a bit less efficient,” Nachmani said.
Apollo assisted Nachmani with her work by climbing on the machines, hiding behind them, dumping the trash, and attempting to take her money. Even still, Nachmani had decided she would spend the entire day with Apollo because she was enjoying his company so much. She decided to wait till his family learned he had escaped with her new closest buddy.
Nachmani added, “I was ready to hang out with him as long as I needed to make sure he was safe and situated.”
Apollo’s mother noticed he was missing when she got out of the shower about 15 minutes after they first met. He eagerly ran to meet her when she yelled his name down the hallway, unfazed by any of the commotion he had caused. She was certainly taken aback to learn that he had made a friend, and Nachmani filled in the details.
“I just told her that Apollo was hysterical and that I had kept an eye on him in the laundry room,” Nachmani said. “She laughed and was obviously a bit shocked that so much had transpired while she was in the shower.”
The fact that it turned out to be Apollo made Nachmani incredibly happy even though she hadn’t anticipated having a laundry partner that day.
