Since Luna did not have a permanent place to live, her position was getting worse, and the local social services office had started threatening to put her down if she could not find a place to live. She urgently needed a loving caregiver.
Fortunately, Lucie Holmes was coming on the way.
When social services informed Lucie about Luna’s predicament, she understood what she had to do right away. Luna, a boisterous 12-month-old German shepherd who runs Lucie’s Animal Rescue in North Yorkshire, England, appeared to be pregnant, which confounded Lucie, who leads the organization.
A scan at the veterinarian confirmed what Lucie had thought after she brought Luna there. In addition to being pregnant, Luna was also about to give birth to puppies.

“I think I had a panic attack,” Lucie said. “I had nothing for puppies.”
In addition to making sure Luna had all she needed to stay well through the remainder of her pregnancy, Lucie hurriedly prepared her home for the puppies’ arrival.
The puppies came two weeks later. Lucie and her family were stunned to see how many babies Luna had been carrying when she eventually went into delivery.
Lucie stated, “We were expecting four, possibly five puppies. [We] could not believe it when she delivered 10! I stayed up with her all night, and she was amazing.”

Despite still being young, Luna has already shown she is a wonderful mother. She has little trouble ensuring that all of her puppies eat plenty while remaining upbeat.
All of Luna’s young will be available for adoption through Lucie’s Animal Rescue once they are old enough. The search for Luna’s forever home will continue.
Lucie has a lot of respect for Luna because, despite all that she has been through, she still manages to love and treat her caregivers and her brand-new puppies with such a special type of tenderness.
“She’s been incredible,” Lucie said. “I’m so proud of her.”
